What you choose to share
If you join The Note, you give us your email address. If you write to us, you may also share your name and anything you include in the message.
What the site receives
Like most websites, our hosting and security services receive basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, requested pages and timestamps. We use it to deliver the site, protect it and understand operational problems.
Optional analytics
When you choose “Allow analytics,” Google Analytics and HubSpot help us understand page visits, engagement with stories, searches, sharing controls, downloads, and newsletter signups. They may use cookies and similar identifiers. We use these measurements to improve the publication, not for third-party advertising.
If you subscribe while analytics is enabled, HubSpot may connect your browsing activity to your subscriber record. Your email address is used by HubSpot to manage that relationship; we do not include it in the Google Analytics events we send. We also record the page where a newsletter request was submitted.
You can decline optional analytics and still read the site or subscribe. Use “Privacy settings” at the bottom of a page to change your choice. Withdrawing permission stops this site's optional analytics going forward; contact us about access to or deletion of previously collected personal information. We honor Global Privacy Control by not enabling optional analytics.
Your questions, follow requests, and comparisons
When you send a question or follow an investigation, we save your email, message or chosen topics, and any update permission in HubSpot. Joining The Note is a separate choice. To stop investigation updates, email hello@driftednorth.com.
The comparison tools calculate in your browser. If you copy, download, or email a comparison, it includes your figures and a link that restores them. Anyone you share that link with can reopen those figures. Opening a comparison in email uses your own email app; the site does not automatically send it.
With optional analytics enabled, we measure tool completions, save actions, return visits, and successful submissions. The custom measurement events do not include your question, email address, or comparison amounts.
How we use information
- to send The Note and manage your subscription;
- to reply when you contact us;
- to operate, secure and improve Drifted North; and
- to meet legal obligations.
Drifted North does not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
Who helps us
We use service providers for website hosting, email delivery, analytics, and security, including Vercel, Google Analytics, and HubSpot. They process information to provide those services and have their own security and privacy practices.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from The Note at any time using the link in any issue. You may also ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, subject to applicable law.
Retention and security
We keep information only as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes above. No online service can promise perfect security, but we use proportionate safeguards and limit access to the people and providers who need it.
